The Pacific tells the true story of three US Marines - Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge, and John Basilone - fighting in the Pacific Theatre during the Second World War. The miniseries, which totals up to 10 hours of screening time, follows them as they clash with the Japanese in the haunting jungles of Guadalcanal; through the muggy rainforests of Cape Gloucester; across the coral strongholds of Peleliu; over the hard-fought battle for Iwo Jima; through the tragedy of Okinawa; and then their emotional journey home after Victory Over Japan Day.

The show draws inspiration from Eugene Sledge's With the Old Breed, and Robert Leckie's Helmet for My Pillow, who also represent two main characters in The Pacific. Filmed in Melbourne where US troops took shelter in 1943 and in Far North Queensland, directing duties for different episodes of The Pacific are the responsibility of famed directors like Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress), David Nutter (Entourage), and Tony To (Band of Brothers). The three lead actors are James Badge Dale, John Seda and Joe Mazzello (the kid from Jurassic Park all grown up).

If you want to know more about World War II in the Asia-Pacific and the personal stories of men who fought against tyranny so far away from their homeland, then The Pacific is a must-watch.
